Vulnerability
This will be the very first blog post I’ve ever done, how exciting!
Firstly, I want to welcome you to my website. I am continuously working on it to make it better, but I think I am pretty close to where I want it to be for now.
I feel like I am in an in-between place right now when it comes to creation and what I want to make. What I want to be known for. Is it pretentious to speak of myself as someone who is known? I’m not too sure.
Being an artist means being vulnerable. Which was something I had no problem being. Until one day I found myself wincing at every question that was begging for a deeper meaning — in my art, my work, my well-being; anything that mattered.
I am unsure when this started happening. Or maybe I do and that’s me trying to downplay or be mysterious.
These thoughts tug at my identity a lot. I am, like most young adults, constantly calling my identity and my intentions into question.
How exhausting!
It’s never that serious. It shouldn’t be anyway. I remember being a kid and not caring what the hell I was making — I just made it. And when any adult asked me why I made it, I would shrug and rip the page out of the book and start on a new drawing. Because it did not matter!!!! and I did not care!!!!!
I know there is a story behind every piece. I know it is all very important. I know the identity crisis is telling of something more.
Or maybe it stems from a quiet thought blown out of proportion. Maybe I need to relax my eyebrows, shoulders, unclench my jaw, walk around the block and let my thoughts race until they run away from me.
Only then will we be left with ourselves. Then we can finally get the true answer to “how are you, really?”
I do not think I am very profound. I don’t have anything unique or insightful to share that hasn’t been stated by a million other people in every other timeline. But I think we are all meant to figure it out at the right time.
So that’s what I am doing. I am figuring it out. I’m figuring out my business, my art, what message I want to share, my career, my relationships, and how to maintain it all while also figuring out myself.
How lucky are we that we get to learn :)
